WHAT IS MIANN & CO WOMENSWEAR SIZING LIKE? You might be wondering what to expect from our sizing - and let’s face it, there is no standard when it comes to sizing. I have so many different sizes in my wardrobe and I’m sure you feel the same when I say that choosing the right size – especially when shopping online – can be difficult. While it can be very frustrating to have so many sizes in your wardrobe, we are big believers in wearing what makes you feel good, regardless of the size. Feeling good and comfortable in the clothes you wear is our top priority. We are passionate about teaching women that they are more than the size of their clothing, and we’re always here to help with choosing the best size for you and your needs. So, how do you buy clothing to fit your body online? Scroll down to read our guide to help you choose the right size in Miann & Co with confidence!   WHAT FABRICS DO MIANN & CO USE? We exclusively use natural fibres, and it is something we are extremely passionate about. We typically produce in knitwear and wovens - and we love educating our customers on how these fabrics differ from each other, and how they’re made. Understanding your fabrics is one of our top tips to better shop online. Let’s breakdown our two types of clothing.   WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM KNITWEAR? First and foremost, our sizing runs quite generous, and has been intentionally constructed that way. All our knitwear is made exclusively from 100% cotton. Knitwear is made from a single yarn that is continuously looped, meaning they will give with wear and return to shape after washing. Due to the generous nature of our knitwear, if you prefer a firmer fit, we recommend sizing down where possible. As we produce in natural fibres, your knitwear won’t pill or ball like clothing made from synthetic nasties. We deliberately design our products this way so your knitwear can be worn over and over, rather than getting a few wears out of them. Our knitwear sizing generally works to this standard: XS: AU 8-10 S: AU 10-12 M: AU 14-16 L: AU 18-20 XL: AU 20-22 However, there are exceptions with different styles as some pieces have different design features. Our biggest recommendation is to look at the descriptions of each product, regardless of your size or whether you’ve worn our clothing before. We work extremely hard to ensure that our descriptions are tailored to each individual style, and we will always detail if a piece fits larger, or smaller, and any care requirements that a garment may have.   WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FROM WOVENS? The majority of our summer collections are made woven garments. Unlike knitwear, wovens do not have any stretch to them. They are made from multiple threads that are interlaced in a criss-cross pattern and are generally more structured that knitwear. Due to their lack of stretch, our woven garment sizing does differ from knitwear. And differs from garment to garment based on the fibre used. In our woven collections, we use cotton poplin and muslin, and linen/cotton blends to get a light and airy fabrication. Each of these fabrications will have a different fit. Our woven sizing generally works to this standard: XS: AU 8-10 S: AU 10-12 M: AU 14-16 L: AU 16-18 XL: AU 18-20 As with our knitwear, all our woven clothing has exceptions that may make one garment fit differently from another. Again, we recommend reading in-depth the descriptions of each product to better understand what you’re purchasing.   HOW DO I GET THE RIGHT SIZE? Every garment on our website has detailed, individual sizing charts rather than a standard sizing chart for all garments. We do this as we believe it makes it easier to choose the right product for you, and you can get an understanding of the measurements for each piece and measure your body correctly. We use flat measurements for each garment and are measured off the front of the garment only. This means to find circumference; you’ll need to double the measurement if you are measuring against your body. Coupled with the individual detailed product descriptions, you’ll get an accurate description and view of the product and it’s design features. You can find all our size charts at the end of the product image carousel. Another point of reference is our product imagery. Where possible, we try to shoot our garments on many different sized bodies. What we love most about clothing is that everyone likes their garments to fit different ways, and no two people will wear a garment the same! All our product imagery is shot to show how the garment has intentionally been designed, but this doesn’t mean you have to wear the garment that exact way.   WHAT IF I NEED FURTHER ASSISTANCE WITH SIZING? We hear you – figuring out the best way to use and clean Reusable Cloth Nappies can seem daunting. How do you clean them? How do you fit them? Do they smell? How do I get rid of the poo?  Worry not, we’ve compiled all your questions and more into an easy to read blog post that you can refer back to at any point of your Reusable Cloth Nappy journey.  How Do I Fit Them? Fitting the nappy itself is simple can seem complicated – there’s a lot of buttons and it can be hard to know where and which ones to snap them closed to.  Our Reusable Cloth Nappies will roughly fit bubs from 3.5kg to 16kg, so this should cover them from birth to toilet training. They should also be changed roughly every 2-3 hours depending on the soiling as they don’t hold as much liquid as disposable nappies, that have chemicals in them to increase absorbency.   Each bub is individual, so the way you fit your nappies may vary depending what you want out of your nappy. You may just want them for daily use and stick to a disposable at night-time, or you may want to use both disposable and reusable interchangeably, or you may want to swap them out completely and use reusable full time – everyone’s journey is unique.  We’ve found we’ve had the best success fitting them using the below guide: To start, fit the nappy high up on your little ones back to ensure that the gusset of the nappy is close to the crotch – for best absorbency, the Bamboo Soaker Pads need to sitting close to the skin so they can catch any liquid. If the crotch isn’t sitting high enough it will sag, leading to more leaks. Adjust the nappy to the size of your baby – you can do this two ways, by adjusting the width and the length: To adjust the length of the nappy, use the front 12 buttons that sit just on the gusset of the nappy, by snapping them together you can shorten the body of the nappy for newborns.   To adjust the width, fit the left nappy flap first, securing tight with the two rows of snaps that run across the top of the nappy. Then, fit the right flap into the snaps. You can also secure the snaps on top of the left flap – this is a great technique for securing little ones with small waists. You want the nappy to fit snuggly around their waist, but not too tight so they’re uncomfortable.  Make sure the nappy elastics are sitting at the top of their thighs – the same way you would wear a pair of undies up tight against your body is the same way you want the nappies to fit – this will ensure that the fit of the nappy is nice and comfy for your little one. And finally, double check to make sure the Bamboo Soaker Pads are sitting flush to the nappy and your bub. Any curling or folded edges could result in leakage. Help! My Nappy Keeps Leaking! When you have a leak, double check your Soaker Pads first – if they are saturated, if they’re just damp, or if they’re only wet in one section. This will give you a better indication of the issue at hand, and how best to tackle it. If your nappy is leaking through the nappy or down the legs, you may have a little one that wets more frequently, so it’s possible that your nappy doesn’t have enough absorption or needs to be changed quicker to keep up with your baby. Add another liner to boost absorption, or if you’ve threaded the liner through the nappy, snap it in place on top of the gusset instead so point of absorption is directly against the skin. We find leakages through the elasticated leg happens most often with newborn poo or diarrhoea. In manufacturing, small holes are punctured through the waterproof cover to hold elastic in place and the cover to the suede interior. In rare cases if liquid is left to pool around the legs it can soak through. Try adding more absorption to your nappy by adding another Bamboo Soaker Pad or change the nappy as soon as you realise your baby has soiled the nappy. Always make sure the nappy is fit snug to the body. When the inserts are only damp down one end of the nappy, or leaking is occurring out the top or the back of the nappy we find this is probably an issue with the fit, refer back to the fitting steps to ensure best fit for your baby. How do I use the Bamboo Soaker Pads? You can fit the Bamboo Soaker Pads to best fit your baby’s individual needs for varying absorbency. For casual wear in older bubs, you may only use one liner if they’re not wetting as frequently. For overnight, you may use two or three liners to boost absorbency and reduce leakage. All our nappies come with two soakers, one large and one small. Use the below as a standard guide for absorbency: Use the single smaller pad for standard absorbency for a baby. Fold the single larger pad at the line for a wider pad and higher absorbency for baby. Attach the folded larger pad to the smaller pad for extra absorbency for baby. Use the single larger pad unfolded for standard absorbency for young children. Double up the smaller pad and larger pad for extra absorbency for young children. How do I fit the Bamboo Soaker Pads? You can fit our bamboo soaker pads two different ways, on top of the nappy gusset or through the nappy itself.  Sitting the soaker pads on top of the nappy and clipping them in place are great for extra absorbency as it sits directly against the skin. This style of nappy is also easy to wash as the soiling is on the liner not the nappy – nappy covers can be reused if no soiling has come in contact with the cover. Threading the soaker pads through the nappy is a great option for kinder going bubbas, or when they’re being looked after by people not as familiar with Reusable Cloth Nappies. It also works perfect for active bubbas as the pads won’t move around like it would sitting on top of the gusset. How do I wash them? The washing process is a super crucial part in ensuring the longevity and best use of your Reusable Cloth Nappies. It’s also relatively simple once broken down into easy to follow steps!  Before Use Soak the Bamboo Inserts overnight in warm water. After soaking, wash inserts and nappy cover with washing liquid or powder. We prefer using eco-friendly alternatives like EcoStore. Leave the nappy to dry completely – then you’re ready for use! This is a super important step as it maximises the absorbency of your liners. After Use Once used and ready to wash, remove all solids and rinse any remaining soiling. We promise you won’t have to touch any soiling – place solids into the toilet and rinse soaked or soiled liners/ nappies in the laundry sink. You could also invest in bio-degradable nappy liners that sit on top of the Bamboo Soaker Pad and can be picked up and disposed of, minimising the risk of touching any soiling.  Pro-Tip: If not washing straight away, collect all rinsed nappies and liners in a nappy pail (you can even use a bucket with a lid, just make sure it has air holes to prevent odours and mold) until you have collected enough for a full wash. If using nappies interchangeably with disposables, wash as needed. Pre-Wash the nappy with washing liquid or powder in a 40°-60° wash – either hand washed or through the machine. This is an important step that removes excess soiling and produces best results in the main wash. It also increases the life of your liners and cover by removing any ammonia development and excess smells. Wash the nappies once more in a 40°-60° wash with washing liquid or powder. Don’t forget, it’s super important to wash your nappy twice to ensure longevity of your nappy. We prefer to air dry nappy pieces separately on a clothes horse or clothesline, but you can tumble dry them at a low temperature only if needed. So should I switch all my nappies over at once? Only if you want to! Remember, every family and every baby is different – some families have more time to spend washing and caring for reusable nappies, some have both parents working who may not have that extra amount of time and that’s completely okay. Go with what works best for your family – whether that’s only having one or a couple of Reusable Cloth Nappies that you use interchangeably with disposable nappies, or completely making the switch, you’re still creating an impact on our environment. For those starting out, we recommend purchasing one or two to begin with and seeing how you go. Don’t spend excess funds on purchasing a whole set to begin with, you may become overwhelmed by the process. Test them out, see how they work for your babies and your family and then add more nappies as needed. Top Tips: Always remember, leakages will happen. Even disposable nappies leak from time to time – expect the first few tries of fitting your nappy to be a learning process and find out what works best for your baby. You are more than welcome to use stain remover with your nappy and lining, however, please note that the harsh chemicals used in stain removers may decrease the lifespan of your nappy. Remove as much of the soiling and solids as you can before pre-washing the nappies, you could invest in a rubber brush as an extra precaution for removing soiling as it’s easy to disinfect after use. If washing nappies with other items, make sure you’ve done a rinse and pre-wash first to remove any chance of contamination with your other items. Before storing away nappy cover and inserts, always make sure they’re 100% dry. This minimises risk of mould developing and increases lifespan. Your nappy bag is your knight in shining armour when you're on the go. Before you had a baby, you probably assumed nappy bags were full of just that - nappies. But once you bring a little one into the world, you begin to understand that nappy bags are like a Mary Poppins bag - full of every little thing you could ever need when you're out and about with your baby. But if you're a first time mum, where do you start? What essentials do you keep in your nappy bag to ensure that you have everything if your little one has a poo explosion when you're in town? Should I keep snacks, an extra change of clothes - Help! First things first - you'll need nappies. A good rule of thumb is to pack one nappy for every hour you're out, and have a few spare. Disposables are great for nappy bags as they're more compact, but if you're after something more eco friendly, Modern Cloth Nappies are perfect. Use the same rule for these nappies. With MCN's, you'll also need to carry extra liners if you need to up absorbency while you're out. For soiled nappies, carry a wet bag with you that will not let any soiling soak through or any smells. If you've forgotten your wet bag, a plastic bag will do for short trips. The nappy essentials - for changing on the go, you'll need a changing mat (they're smaller, more compact and can be rolled up to not take up much space) and they're also great for making sure your baby doesn't come into contact with dirty surfaces. You can get small tubs of nappy rash cream for on the go, and smaller packs of baby wipes - but we always carted a full size pack with us and one for the car for any spills or accidents - even adult made as they come so in handy. Hand sanitiser - Sometimes you can't make it to a tap after you've changed a nappy, and where would any of us be without hand sanitiser in 2021? You've probably already got a bottle in the car, but you can never have too much sanitiser in our books. A natural hand sanitiser can remove up to 99.9% of germs without making your hands super dry. For feeding - if you're formula feeding, don't carry pre-made bottles around as they may spoil. A small Tupperware container of formula and a thermos of warm water will work fine. If you're breast feeding, you may want to take with you a feeding cover, breast pads and nipple cream (we like the ones that can double as lip balm) Blankets - If it gets a little cold, or you want to swaddle your baby have one or two on hand. Muslin is a great lightweight choice and it's perfect for well... almost everything. To use as a changing pad, catching vomit, to cover baby from the sun in the stroller or car seat. Muslin really is one of the most useful things to have with you. Change of clothes - Accidents happen, so it's best to be over prepared for the world's worst poo and vomit combo explosion than to have nothing to clean it up or change them into. Some extras - It's always good to carry a couple of soothers with you (if your child uses them), tissues, baby sunscreen, a beanie or hat depending on the season and depending on the age, a few toys or books to keep them entertained. A first aid kit wouldn't go astray either.   We liked to double up our nappy bags as our handbags, at least for the first few months to minimise the amount of things we were carrying around, so having a pocket for your stuff is a great idea for separating things out. If you follow us on social media, you'd know that we absolutely adore Modern Cloth Nappies - so much so, that today we release six new patterns to our offering - Barley, Optic White, Sweet Meadow, Prairie Wildflower, Slate, White Cross & Slate Star. Early last year, we noticed a gap in a market full of loud, colourful patterns - and we thought, what about those parents like us, who want something more understated and simple? So in September 2020 we launched our first range of Modern Cloth Nappies (I'll stick to calling them MCN's from here on out as it's a mouthful to say and type!) - and are so excited to release our second drop! The movement is huge and it can seem overwhelming even just dipping your toes into the ocean that is MCN's. You may join a few Facebook groups or forums, but it can be hard to find a specific thread that is informative and easy to understand that really lets you know how to transition into using MCN's. So we're here to help! We've tried and tested multiple MCN's and through trial and error have successfully transitioned our daughter to using MCN's (though she now only uses them at night) in a way that effectively works for our family. START SLOW This is a point that we cannot stress enough - starting slow and easing yourselves into the MCN lifestyle is so important. Modern Cloth Nappies might not be for everyone, and that's okay. It may not fit in with your lifestyle, you may just not like using them. When you first get into using MCN's it can seem so exciting, it's like a whole world opens up of pretty colours and prints and it can feel like you just want to buy every single one you see, but we suggest taking it as slow as possible. Buy maybe one or two nappies and see if they work for you and your family first. START AT HOME While it can seem online that a ton of people use MCN's, not everyone is well versed in how to use, clean or properly fit one. We suggest that when trialling MCN's, do so at home, where everything is in a controlled environment and if any accidents happen you can clean them up and start again. Even when using disposables, we've all heard (or have our own stories) of a nappy explosion happening in the middle of a shopping centre or in a supermarket. Until you've learned how they work for you and your little one, what absorbency and fit works best, do it at home. DON'T FEEL DISCOURAGED As with everything in life, there's always a learning curve. You'll have accidents, spills, and maybe one or two explosions - but remember, these all happen with disposable nappies too. These accidents will help you to adjust your routine, the absorbency of the nappies throughout the day (your little one will probably need extra inserts for overnight) and where and when it's best for you to use them. Plus, as gross as an accident is in the moment, they always make a funny story and something you can look back at and have a laugh. We hope this helps relieve some of your worries when it comes to MCN's, it can seem daunting, but it really isn't! We totally recommend giving them a try and seeing if it works for your family! Digital printing uses 70% less water than traditional screen printing and we're so excited to be able to include artisanal craft to our manufacturing process for a more eco-friendly collection! When you receive a parcel, full of new, beautiful printed goodies - you would be surprised to find out just how many hands that one garment has passed through. Packaged up by our team, handled by our shipping agents, packed by our workers in China, sewn together by our seamstresses, dyed and printed by our printers, processed and grown by our farmers. So much work goes into producing one single garment. Today we wanted to take you through the printing process of our garments. If you have followed our journey for a long time now, you'll know that we love our prints. We spend days designing and perfecting them, all of which are designed in-house by our Creative Director. They're a real labour of love, so to see the response we get from them is so heart warming. Traditional printing techniques use a screen printer. This process involves pressing ink through a mesh screen to create the printed design. It produces a bold and vibrant design, and because it uses a stencil, can be used time and time again. Prints can be layered and layered to create intricate designs. The downside to traditional screen is that it uses plastics and acetates in the production of making the screens, which are then typically discarded after use. It also uses a ton of water to clean the screens and mix the inks. The process can also produce blurred images and prints may not come out as focused. When sampling for our new collection, we chose the digital prints mostly for their crispness - they truly showed off every intricate detail of the pattern. It wasn't until we researched the process more that we found out Digital Printing is actually vastly better for the environment. As a business that loves to reduce our impact on the planet as much as possible, this was a huge bonus for us. By nature, digital printing is dramatically more sustainable than traditional screen printing. Devoid of the need for screens, plastics, acetate's and the load of water, it offers a clean and efficient manufacturing process. In screen printing, roughly 50-60 litres of water is used per metre in the process. Digital printing uses less, with around 10 litres used per metre. It also uses 10% of the total dye used in screen printing, further saving water. Overall, digital printing uses 70% less water than traditional printing. Our prints also use non-toxic, water based dyes which is safe to wear on the skin! A major bonus if you're a new parent seeking safe clothing for your newborn. As Spring rolls around, so do the warmer days, the nights spent outside and living like by the sun. As most of the country welcomes the Spring Season in various forms of lockdown, we thought we'd compile a blog post of ways to care for yourself during this time - body, mind and spirit, so when we're finally able to come summer, you can embrace the world fully.   MIND For us, the mind is at the core of everything, so we like to treat it well. Taking care of your mind looks different for everyone. For some it's going for a run and embracing the endorphin rush. For others it's going to speak to someone, to get all those thoughts out of your head. One of the ways we like to look after our minds is through meditation. There are so many good YouTube videos and meditation apps that there's sure to be the perfect track for you to get fully zen. But in meditation, we also love to use oils - both diffused and on our bodies. We've recently added a new brand to our offering, Clē. Naturals. This beautiful brand focuses on women's and babies health through the use of essential oils. We love using their Morning and Breathe roll's for meditating and focusing our minds throughout the day.   BODY Though the call to get out and about this Spring is strong, it's also good to find moments of quiet and calm for yourself to recharge. One way we love to recharge is to treat our body to a long, relaxing moment - A good bath, face mask, lotion and tea. Bath's for me have always been essential to wind down a busy week. I love to sit in a good epsom salt bath, or bath bomb and just relax. Our beautiful friends Clē. Naturals has the most stunning Relax. Soak that I've used to many times since we got it in.  While I'm soaking, a Face Mask and a good cup of tea is essential. Depending on your skin concern, we've just added two masks to our offering from ORGAID, one for Vitamin C and one for anti-aging. Both are beautiful! Along with a mask, I love to have a cup of Love Tea - which is so good for your body. It feels indulgent, but it's so good for you. Lastly, once I'm out of the bath I love to lather my body in a good oil or lotion. Our favourites Weleda make a stunning Body Butter and Body Oil that feel so good on the skin. They sink in quickly and leave you feeling super soft.   SPIRIT Lastly, care for yourself this Spring by caring for your Spirit. Your inner peace is so important to your overall well being. By taking care of your inner self, you're caring for the outer as well. Everyone has a different way of caring for their spirit, and we'd love to know how you do! Spring trails her fingers across our skin, waking us from the long winter slumber. We awaken, with sleepy eyes, mussed hair. The sun greets us. Golden rays giving life to the Earth - warming, unfurling, flourishing. After a long, hard year, we wanted to encapsulate all the excitement that comes with the Springtime - a rebirth, a renewal, an awakening of sorts. To leave behind the Winter, the cold and welcome in a new era, a new season of life. We named this new collection, Awakening, for one very important reason - we were ready to welcome the world anew. By definition, awakening means to come into existence or awareness - and that's exactly what we're looking forward to, coming into the world once again. This collection features beautiful, timeless cuts and shapes in Spring prints and colours. It's going to be a SS21 defined by gingham, so we've brought back our much loved Blush Gingham across a new dress, a shirt and pants. Also back is our Cornflower shade, because where would summer be without a stunning blue colour?
